History
Marton Arts and Crafts Centre has been offering people the opportunity to learn and enjoy a variety of creative crafts since 1971. In the very beginning, Floral Art classes were run out of the recently closed St. Stephen’s School in Marton. From these small beginnings, the centre has grown immensely.
By the end of the 1970s, the centre had become an incorporated society and purchased the former St. Stephen’s School buildings which they still operate from today. Since then the centre has offered a wide variety of classes, workshops and exhibitions.
Guest exhibitors have presented displays of: pottery, batik art, sculpture, screen printing, furniture, copper work, glass blowing, china painting and embroidery to name a few. Marton Arts and Crafts Centre continues to present fun and exciting exhibitions to the community bi-annually.
Classes led by skilled tutors, social groups sharing and enjoying their preferred craft and weekend workshops are all on offer. Our membership includes people from: Wanganui, Taihape, Hunterville, Palmerston North, Feilding, Bulls, Sanson and even from as far afield as Levin and Foxton.
We always welcome new members!
